Police chase suspect with 16 arrest warrants in Harrison Township

A police chase suspect with 16 warrants was arrested Friday in Harrison Township.

According to the Allegheny County Sheriff’s Office, 29-year-old Brandon Wheeler had eight outstanding warrants, two bench warrants and six active arrest warrants.

Police said they last encountered him in June when he led officers from Ross Township and Franklin Park on a high-speed chase on I-79. The crash ended when the fleeing vehicle crashed into an unoccupied vehicle at a Cranberry Township highway intersection.

Wheeler allegedly fled the scene of the accident and managed to elude police.

His escape lasted for months until detectives received information that he was staying at an apartment building on Freeport Road in Harrison Township.

Detectives went to the building on Friday. They said Wheeler got out of the back window after entering his unit. He was shocked as he fled a nearby area but was able to continue on his way and disappeared into the woods near Sylvan Boulevard.

A drone with a thermal camera was able to find it when it captured its heat signature. Detectives took him into custody without incident after finding him hiding behind a tree near the stream bed.
