Cops catch Bronx thief who stole Acura SUV with 7-year-old child

NYPD detectives arrest 22-year-old car thief crashed an idle Acura with a 7-year-old child in the backseat Police said it happened on Thanksgiving Saturday.

Sakho Mohamed was taken into custody without incident early Saturday and booked on multiple charges, including car theft, kidnapping, robbery, unlawful imprisonment for speeding away with the minor, and abandoning a child while fleeing by towing the vehicle three miles away . We set off on foot.

His trial in Bronx Criminal Court is pending, authorities said.

Police said the woman and her husband were outside the Acura, about to put their second child in the backseat, when Mohamed jumped into the vehicle and fled.

The child was unharmed but was brought to hospital Jacobi Medical Center by EMS for an evaluation. He was later returned to his delighted parents.

Police said detectives found video of Mohamed running away after getting out of the vehicle.

“They’re stealing in front of the park,” a woman who lives in the neighborhood told the Daily News on Thursday. “They steal tires from Hondas and stuff like that. But something like this? This is a quiet neighborhood. This is a nice neighborhood.”

A 30-year-old woman who lives nearby agrees.

“I am shocked. “So packages were stolen from our door during the holidays,” he said. “But was a car stolen with a baby inside? No. I was shocked. “When (a police officer) said that, my jaw dropped to the floor.”

The next day, in an unrelated incident, another Car thief steals red Acura with 4-year-old girl inside at 101st Ave., 131st St. near South Richmond Hill, the cops said.

Officers found the car and child about five blocks away on 101st Street near Sanders Place after the theft at 4:30 p.m. Medical teams examined the child at the scene and determined that he did not have any injuries.
