Migori: Fishermen Discovered the Body of an Unidentified Child Aged 6-8 at Nyatike Beach

How was the body of the Migori child found?

According to Migori District Beach Management Unit Head Mark Maloba, fishermen discovered the body during routine fishing activities on Thursday night (November 28).

“Some of our fishermen came across the body of the child while they were on the beach during their usual fishing tour,” Maloba said.

According to Maloba, the body is on the beach waiting for police intervention. Efforts to identify the child’s family are ongoing and stakeholders are collaborating to track them down.

Maloba expressed concern about the increasing number of child drownings in water bodies in the area and urged parents to exercise caution by keeping their children away from lakes and rivers.

“We urge parents to be more careful and prevent their children from accessing water sources. “Such tragic events are becoming increasingly common,” he said.

The President also referred to a recent incident where a 4-year-old boy drowned in the Kuja River at Macalder in Nyatike Sub-County last week.

Maloba emphasized the need to raise awareness about water safety, especially among families living near rivers and lakes.

While investigations into the incident continue, the police are expected to take the child’s body into custody.

Community leaders and residents were asked to report missing children to help identify the victim.
