Portage police arrest two men for possession of $80,000 in fentanyl

Two Portage residents were arrested Monday in possession of nearly $80,000 worth of fentanyl and a “large quantity of heroin.”

Officers responded to a report of a 29-year-old man and a 29-year-old woman at a residence in the 400 block of East Cook Street for allegedly violating conditions of probation requiring them to have no contact with each other, Portage Detective Sgt. . Peter Warning said in a statement posted on Facebook. Police were also notified that the pair were in possession of cocaine, but Warning did not specify how much cocaine was found.

After confirming the two had violated their parole terms, officers searched the home for 1.8 kilograms of fentanyl, a powerful synthetic drug that is about 50 times more potent than heroin and has an estimated street value of about $80,000, Warning said. Officers also found a handgun and $3,000 in cash that he was not supposed to have due to prior felonies.

Online court records show both men were formally charged with possession of fentanyl, narcotic drugs and a firearm, and operating a drug trafficking establishment, all felonies. The man also had a bail jumping charge.
